About David Witmer

Composer and Pianist David Witmer performs as a soloist and collaborative musician throughout the North East and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and most recently in Tapei, Taiwan. A dedicated advocate of contemporary music David has performed in the Evolution Contemporary Music Series (Baltimore, MD), The Stone (NYC), Living Music East Coast tour, Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church (NYC), Arts for Heart’s Sake at the Villa (Baltimore, MD), Fine Arts Recital Hall (UMBC), Friedberg Hall – Peabody Conservatory (Baltimore, MD), Frederick Presbyterian Church (Frederick, MD), Edward Pickman Hall - The Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA).

David’s compositions have been featured in Livewire: Celebrating Music from the 21st Century, REDSHIFT PLAYS 3NW: East Coast Tour, the TSMSS Artist Performance Series, and the Prix d’ Été Winners Concert. He collaborated with the Walters Art Museum, composing music for the Gustav Courbet exhibit installation in Baltimore, MD, and with Karla Cott, for her short animation, Colombine’s Mole. His composition Spring for piano trio and electronics was released in 2006 on the CD Courbet and the Modern Landscape from the Walters Art Museum. In the same year his orchestral work Oscha, was included in the CD Masterworks of the New Era - Volume Ten released by ERMMEDIA with Robert Ian Winston conducting the Kiev Philharmonic.

At the age of 7 David performed on the WBZ TV broadcast, Community Auditions hosted by Dave Maynard. His debut recital seven years later was with his sister Heather Kares, performing 4-hands repertoire in Williams Hall, New England Conservatory (Boston, MA).

David Witmer received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He has studied piano with S. Anita Marchessaullt, CSC, Ph.D, Seth Kimmelmann, Ludmilla Lifson, David Hagan, and currently studies with Dr. Ernest Ragogini. David has studied composition with Yakov Gubanov, Christopher Theofanidis, and Michael Hersch.
